The Promised Neverland ( (やく) (そく) のネバーランド, Yakusoku no Nebārando?) is a manga written by Kaiu Shirai, illustrated by Posuka Demizu, and published in Weekly Shōnen Jump. The series has been running ever since August 01, 2016 at Issue 2016 (#35) of Weekly Shōnen Jump.

Synopsis

Norman, Emma, and Ray are the brightest kids at the Grace Field House orphanage. And under the care of the woman they refer to as "Mama," all the kids have enjoyed a comfortable life. Good food, clean clothes and the perfect environment to learn- what more could an orphan ask for? One day, though, Emma and Norman uncover the dark and twisted truth of the outside world they are forbidden from seeing. Soon, they must make haste to plan their escape!

Background

As a part of the JUMP START initiative, the first three chapters of The Promised Neverland were published in English in VIZ Media's digital Weekly Shonen Jump on the same day as the Japanese release. After, the series was added to VIZ Media's Weekly Shonen Jump lineup. The publisher has been physically releasing the series since December 5, 2017. The series has also been licensed in Polish by Waneko, and in Spanish by Norma Editorial.

Reception

According to an advertisement placed by Shueisha in Shinjuku Station, the first three volumes had printed 700,000 copies as of May 2017. As of July 31, 2017, the first four volumes had over 1.2 million copies in print.As of October 2017, the manga had 2.1 million copies in print. The manga was nominated for the 10th Manga Taishō awards in January 2017 and gets 43 points from the "Executive Committee" of Manga Taishō awards.[1]
