This article is about the Manga version of Mark. For alternate pages referred to by this name, please click any of the icons above.

Mark (マルク, Maruku?) is a five-year-old orphan who formerly resided at Grace Field House Plant 3 as one of the many foster children of Isabella. Due to his age, Mark is considered to be one of the house's "low-quality goods".[6] He was brought into the escape plan by Emma about two months after the truth of the orphanage was revealed.

After successfully escaping Grace Field alongside fourteen other orphans, Mark now seeks to find William Minerva, whom he and her team believe can grant them the liberty to live a safe and peaceful life away from the demons.

History[]

Mark was born at Grace Field on January 8, 2040 and sent to Plantation 3 a year later in 2041, growing up along with several other children under the parental care of Isabella. Mark is brought into the escape plan alongside the other five year olds after Don and Gilda revealed the truth of the orphanage to them. They were scared, but determined to help out in any way they can. They managed to help prepare for the escape by gathering food, warm clothes and supplies and storing them in the old well until the night of the escape. Mark successfully escaped the house along with the rest of his siblings who were over the age of five.

Appearance[]

Mark is a slightly overweight young boy with a wide smile and round, light blue eyes. He has blue hair styled into a bowl-cut with straight, evenly-cut bangs which cover his forehead and a small tuft of hair that sticks up in the back. He also has an ahoge on the top of his head, which resembles the stem of a leaf. He wears the standard Grace Field uniform- a plain white long sleeved button-up shirt and white pants along with brown boots. His identification number, "79294", can be seen on the left side of his neck.

In 2047, Mark stopped wearing the standard Grace Field uniform, instead adopting long black pants and an oversized long sleeved white shirt with the same brown boots he wore at Grace Field House. Now at the age of seven, Mark has gotten a little chubbier and has slightly longer hair, but still styles it in a bowl-cut.

Personality[]

Mark is described as a boy who loves to eat.[2] Like the rest of his siblings, he enjoys playing games such as tag and hide-and-seek. He is good friends with Naila, whom he is often seen with while at the House. Mark is cheerful, loving, and curious, but is also shown to be rather emotional as he cries often and gets scared and angry easily. He cares about his siblings and is very protective of all of them. Like the rest of his younger siblings, he is also shown to be determined and eager to help out. Due to his love of food, Mark also enjoys helping out the other escapees by gardening, hunting and gathering food for everyone. While living in the Shelter, he began to take an interest in cooking as seen when he helps Pepe prepare meals for everyone.

Plot[]

Introduction Arc[]

Taking daily tests, playing a game of tag, eating scrumptious homemade food and having a good time – Mark went through the same routine every day at Grace Field House.

On October 12, 2045, he was seen playing with his siblings and was eventually caught by Norman in a game of tag. Standing alongside Naila, he also said goodbye to Conny who was leaving the orphanage.[7]

When Naila got lost in the forest, Mark came up to Isabella, crying. He told her that he had tried searching for her but couldn't find her. Isabella later found her using the navigator, inadvertently revealing for the older children that she could track them.[8]

Later, during another game of tag, he was caught by Krone. He was also seen participating in the training sessions under the disguise of playing.

Jailbreak Arc[]

As one of the youngest children, Mark was one of the last people recruited into the escape plan after hearing about the truth about the orphanage, the House, and Isabella. Mark and his siblings escape from Grace Field House Plant 3 on January 15, 2046.[9]

Promised Forest Arc[]

After escaping Grace Field with his siblings, Mark and his siblings started looking for location B06-32 with some help from Mujika and Sonju; in which later they found out it is a hidden shelter in the wasteland. Upon reaching Shelter B06-32 like the rest of the children, he took refuge in it for more than a year.[10]

Search For Minerva Arc[]

Mark was seen being overjoyed and crying tears of joy after Emma woke up from her coma following her battle with Leuvis.[11]

Cuvitidala Arc[]

Like the rest of his siblings, Mark escapes from the shelter after it was raided by Andrew and his team. Mark was later seen arriving at the Paradise Hideout, overjoyed that Norman was alive.

Upon arriving in the Human World, Mark is seen to be visibly worried and shocked about Emma's disappearance. Mark, along with the other children, agrees to search for Emma so they can reunite with her again.[12] Over the next two years spent in the Human World, Mark began attending school. During spring 2049, he finally reunites with Emma again and cries tears of joy, even though she lost her memories.[13] In the special epilogue chapter, Dreams Come True, Mark lived out his dream of visiting an all-you-can-eat ice cream buffet.[14]

Trivia[]

  • The following are Mark's rankings in some of The Promised Neverland's official popularity polls.
    • In Shounen Jump's popularity poll results announced in Chapter 88, Mark is in 21st place.
    • In Shounen Jump's 2nd popularity poll results announced in Chapter 102, Mark is in 39th place.
  • In the colored pages of the manga Mark is shown to have blue hair, but in the anime he has brown hair.
    • Although, in some colored pages of the manga, Mark's hair appears to be more of a dark grayish-blue.
  • Mark's favorite food is cornflakes.[1]
  • Some of Mark's other favorite foods appear to be pancakes, ice cream and cookies.
  • Mark is one of the few chubby characters depicted in The Promised Neverland franchise, with the only others being Cecile, Chucky, Adam, Pupo, Alex Mikhaylov and the Bearded man.
  • Mark is apparently not very good at physical activities.[16]
  • Had Mark not escaped from Grace Field, he probably would have been the next child shipped out of Plant 3 after Ray. This is because while Mark's test scores were not bad per se, he was the third lowest scoring child at Plant 3, with only Chris and Alicia doing worse than him. However, Mark would have turned six years old in January 2047 and months before Chris and Alicia would have meaning he could be shipped out before them and as soon as the same month as Ray.
