This article is about the Manga version of Glory Bell. For alternate pages referred to by this name, please click any of the icons above.

Glory Bell (グローリーベル, Gurōrī Beru?) is one of the four Premium Farms, where orphans were raised as livestock for the demons. Just like the Grace Field House, Glory Bell has appointed caretaker(s) to raise orphans that will later be butchered for the demons to consume. The plantation is at least thirteen years old because Yugo and his friends escaped it in 2033.

Appearance[]

Glory Bell's exterior appearance is mostly unknown. Although, in the third light novel, Records of Comrades, Glory Bell is described as "a sort of modest village, with a few buildings that could be counted on the fingers of one hand." It is also known that there is a library, a large dining room, an infirmary and a flower garden somewhere on the property.[1] Additionally, there is a large clock and large bell on the property that rings everyday at noon and can be heard throughout the farm; this bell may be where Glory Bell gets it's name from.[1] Instead of using radar, Glory Bell is located inside of a giant dome to prevent the children from escaping.[2]

History[]

1,000 years ago, the world was plagued by a war between humans and demons. In an attempt to end the war, a proposal —otherwise known as The Promise— was formed by the first head of the Ratri family and DemonKing Name. It declared that "Human beings shan't hunt 'demons' anymore. In return, 'demons' shan't hunt humans." Afterwards, the world was broken into two — one side belonging to the demons while the other belonging to the humans. As per the agreement, as small number of humans were left behind in the Demon World to satisfy the demons need to eat humans. These humans were later kept in plantations known as Premium Farms or Factory Farms to be raised as livestock for the demons to consume. While there are hundreds of Factory Farms, which are for mass production of cheap meat for demon civilians, there are currently only four Premium Farms which produce high quality meat for wealthy and high ranking demons.

Glory Bell, similar to every other plantation, was built in order to keep children as livestock for the demons to consume. In contrast to the Factory Farms, Glory Bell is a Premium Farm, which means that it is a farm that is solely made for the premium or high-end farming of human meat. The Glory Bell farm did not exist 1,000 years ago. There were previous versions of top-grade farms, but it required around 400 years to come to the current form.[3] Like all of the Premium Farms, there is a pathway to the Human World somewhere inside of Glory Bell for bringing food, toys, clothes, and others supplies to the farm.

In 2033, nineteen children escaped from Glory Bell and took refuge at Shelter B06-32 before heading to Goldy Pond in hopes of finding William Minerva. On their way there, the children were captured by the Poachers who brought them to Goldy Pond. Once there, Leuvis mercilessly slaughtered all of them with the exception of Yugo, who later returned to the Shelter alone, and Lucas, who begun living in the windmill with another boy, after barely managing to escape alive.

In November 2047, Glory Bell was abolished after the enactment of Emma's Promise, which declared all farms be shut down and all of the surviving orphans be sent to live in the Human World.

Life at the farm[]

As with all of the Premium Farms, the plantations at Glory Bell are designed to make the children's brains develop as much as possible by providing the them with everything they need to be happy and comfortable with minimal stress. The children are served gourmet food, sleep in plush beds, and are even permitted to celebrate their birthdays and holidays such as Christmas. All of the humans at Glory Bell (both adults and children) are identified by a coding sequence that is comprised of a mixture of letters and numbers on the left side of their abdomens. All of the children at Glory Bell wear the same uniform everyday which consists of a plain white long sleeved button-up shirt, a plain white skirt or pants, and brown boots.

System[]

Tests[]

Everyday, the orphans are required to take tests under the guise of "schooling" which will make them more mentally and physically inclined. When in fact, these tests are designed to determine their quality as livestock. These tests are given daily in order to polish the brains and bodies of the children. The shipping order of all the children is based on how high they score on the test, with the lowest scoring child at each plantation being shipped out roughly once every two months. The children at Glory Bell can request special treats from outside the farm (such as a box of cookies) as a reward for getting perfect scores on their tests for a month straight.[4]

Shipments[]

Main article: Shipments

While six is always the youngest minimum age to be shipped out, each Premium Farm has a different maximum shipment age. For Grace Field, the maximum shipment age is twelve, for Glory Bell it is fifteen, and for Grand Valley it is seventeen.[5] This is because each Premium Farm focuses on different developments in their livestock.[6] Grace Field focuses solely on mental development and thus six years old is the minimum age to be shipped out of Grace Field because the human brain is said to be 90% developed by age six, and according to the manga, by age twelve it is completely developed.[7] Whereas Glory Bell and Grand Valley focus on mental and physical development thus qualifying for a higher maximum shipment age to make their bodies more physically developed.[6] The children at Glory Bell have "Adoption Parties" to celebrate a child being shipped out.[4]

ID Numbers[]

The Glory Bell Identifiers are a standard identification procedure for all children from the Glory Bell orphanages. Similar to the Numbering system used in Grace Field House, they are likely marked shortly after birth and before they are sent to live on the plantations. However, while the Grace Field House orphans' identifiers are on their necks, the Glory Bell children marks are across the left side of the abdomen. Mamas, Sisters, and Grandma like any other adult human in the Hierarchy of the demons, presumably also have an identifying number.

Trivia[]

  • Yugo and Vincent are from different plantations at Glory Bell and thus did not know each other during their time at the orphanage.[2]
    • This also means Glory Bell consists of at least two plantations, although there is likely more since Grace Field is confirmed to be the smallest Premium Farm and has five plantations.
  • The names of the human supervisors are different for each farm (ie. "Mama", "Teacher"), because the camouflage of the farm is separate for each. Grace Field is "a happy orphanage playing family inside the House", Glory Bell is "like a town", Grand Valley and Goodwill Ridge are "school-like facilities".[2]
    • Sugita proposed that Yugo should be from a farm that focuses both on physical and mental development. Shirai wanted Yugo's farm's shipping age to be around 15 years, so he thought of different names for the human supervisors.[2]
